1975 Pops Into the 2020’s

INTIAL CHALLENGES: Faced with an old kitchen remodel from the late 1980’s, and 5 different types of flooring in 1200 sqft of downstairs space, this house felt dated, dark, and small. This house was originally built in 1975.

SOLUTION: Changing the location of the kitchen and adding extra storage for a pantry helped maximize the kitchen. Continuing the wood floor throughout, with the exception of the fire pit and bathroom opens the house. Modernizing the front door and lighting helped bring the house into the new millennium—and helped create a beautiful new feel.

This house originally had a massive 48" wide door and side lite. Since the entryway is not that large, I decided to scale the door down to 42" and increase the side lite width.
Original 1975 brick "conversation pit". We removed the brick hearth and wood floor, added radiant heat to the floor, and tiled.
